First day of "finastics"!

Today was Hannah's first day of gymnastics!
She had a great time...until she decided she was going to jump off the balance beam and hit her lip on it, leading to quite the bloody mess and a bit of screaming...and a looooong way home of screaming "how will I put a bandaid in my mouth?" and "I want to go back to finastics...I hate finastics!!" I guess she really couldn't make her mind up on whether she liked it or not.
I can definitely say she had quite the advantage over the other kids in this class...she ran though the obstacle course like nobody's business, ran across the low and high balance beams, even throwing in some kicks and jumps along the way across, did the "bat" and "butterfly" on the bars with no assistance, jumped the pommel horse, and even the teacher said she should be in a higher level class...not much choice until she's 3 though. Other than the bleeding episode, which thankfully did not occur until the end of the class, she had a good time and I can definitely see this being something she could get into!

I am sooooo stupid.

What kind of absolute moron would give up a nice warm bed, complete with 1 dog, 2 kids, and husband to drive 8 miles in an almost blizzard just to get coffee, only to find out I HAVE NO DEBIT CARD OR MONEY ON ME????

Whoops. Gave it away there. Yep. That would be me.

Evil food staring me in the eye

It is a snow day today and I just re-discovered the Tastefully Simple Twisty Grahams...so dangerous for me as they are soooooo good. Not good to be stuck in the house all day with those staring at me.

Haiden has strep and was going to have to miss school anyways today, so I was happy it was cancelled for everyone. Not to mention, I was supposed to volunteer at the school Open House and now that has been cancelled as well...YAY! I mean, I wanted to help out, but am just not feeling too well myself, so am happy I got out of it tonight.

A momentous occasion

Drum roll please....

This marks a momentous occasion in which BOTH of the kids are sleeping by 9 p.m.

I have no idea what to do with myself now.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

My "present" was getting the bathroom counter installed...minus faucets since we can't seem to agree or find what we like. Hopefully within the week that will be coming. Next will be fixing the wall where the tiles had to come down, then paint, then maybe redo the flooring again, then the bathroom will be DONE for the most part. That was the only room in our house that really needed re-doing, so I am happy to have that part done. When all is done, I will post pics of the finished product.

What is Valentine's Day?

I asked the kids "do you know what Valentine's Day is?"

Haiden:
A day where you give your friendship to everyone.
You tell everyone you love that you care for them.
You sing the "Love Grows" song to everyone you like.
A day where people try to kiss you and you have to run away really fast.

Hannah:
Eat a heart (I'm presuming not a real one!).
Kiss the snake.
Have all pink things all day.
Wear pink lipstick and kiss Haiden and Daddy a lot (notice Mommy got left out of this one?).

Today at Haiden's school, they visited a local nursing home and sang to the residents and gave out "warm fuzzies" that they have been making for them over the past few weeks. Haiden was so excited to hand out the handmade "friendship" cards he had made at school (rather than having the kids do store-bought cards--there are 70 kids in his class--they all made them by hand and made their own "mailboxes") and was excited to look them all over when he came home today from school. He had made heart-shaped cards for his teachers, had drawn a picture of him holding their hands, and was so excited to give them to the teachers today!

Coupon organizing

Over the last year or so, I have tried several ways of keeping track of my coupons so I can quickly go through the ads of the stores I shop at and get a list together without having to search endlessly for "that one coupon."

I finally found a way that I think will work great. I wish I could take complete credit for this idea, but I am sure I am not the first to come up with it. I thought of it because this is what I did with all my handwritten recipes...

I took an old photo album and put my clipped coupons in the slots. If I have multiples of one particular brand, I put them all together, closest expiration date first. I have them sort of categorized...breakfast foods, dinners, cleaning supplies, etc, but not too crazy as far as that goes.

This way, all I have to do is flip through the pages and can clearly see each coupon I have! I think this will be a huge time saver.

Update: I used this "system" for the first time today while getting my grocery list together and it was SO easy! If you are looking for a way to keep track of things like this, it is definitely worth trying. It took me less than 5 minutes to get it all together...normally about 15 or more depending on the extent of my list.

Not my idea of a fun afternoon!

I will spare you the horrible picture, but as happy as I am to have it warm and sunny FINALLY, I am not happy about the belated Christmas presents awaiting me in the backyard, courtesy of 4 dogs and a winter of nonstop snow, making it impossible to get out and scoop you-know-what.

Guess what I will be doing this afternoon? Just take a wild guess!

As an aside, I am very disappointed that scooping crap is not listed on the Weight Watchers activity point list! That HAS to count for something...agree?

AAAAAAHHHH coffee machine broken!!

If you know me at all, you know that I take my coffee (drug of choice) very seriously, so you know how absolutely devastating it is that my coffee machine broke yesterday night! I accidentally knocked the carafe off the counter and it broke into pieces all over the kitchen floor. I rushed to the computer (after cleaning all the glass, of course) and found that the carafe replacements no longer exist because they are no longer making that model of machine!!! Oh the horror of it all.

I started shopping around today, but not finding what I want. Grrrrr. Well...I take that back. I DID find what I want, but with a $200 price tag!

Grossness.

This morning, I looked outside and noticed 3 neighborhood dogs skulking around what looked to be a garbage bag pulled apart in our yard towards the woods...they were acting really strange, kind of just tiptoeing around the bag and had their tails straight out...just acting weird for dogs. Then, I let our dogs out to use the doggy facilities, and THEY are acting weird too, standing at the edge of the fence sniffing the air and scratching at the fence trying to get out...
As I was getting the kids in the car, I notice some hawks circling over the same area...then some crows...
So, curious, I go out there to investigate because now I'm thinking this is not just ordinary garbage....
and it's not!
It's a dead deer carcass!!!!!

So freaking gross. Ew.

More about me you probably didn't want to know...the story of Haiden and Hannah...

Yeah, don't ask me why Haiden's picture turned out so teeny tiny. I don't know how to fix it!

Another "about me" type of thing, but this one is about your kids. My friend did it about her firstborn, but seeing as she only has 1, that makes sense. But...I have 2 and it didn't seem fair to leave #2 out! So I tweaked it a little bit. Nobody will ever accuse me of having a favorite now...although at the moment I am definitely leaning toward one of them....
1. WERE YOUR PREGANCIES PLANNED?
Yes and no. If that constitutes as an answer. We had tried for almost 3 years to get pregnant with Haiden. We were just about to start treatments, and that month I got pregnant. I didn't know I was pregnant until I was about 3 months along.
With Hannah, I went off my birth control pills and 2 weeks later was pregnant. Planned, yes, but was not thinking it would happen that quickly.
2. WERE YOU MARRIED AT THE TIME?
Yes.
3. WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION?
With Haiden, I think it was more disbelief than anything else. The fact that we had just been told by an "expert" that there was no way I'd get pregnant without medical help didn't help the disbelief any. I think I took about 5 pregnancy tests to make sure, then had to have it confirmed by a blood test before I would actually believe it. I still had trouble believing it until I had an ultrasound...at 5 months!
With Hannah, I felt kind of sick, then excited. I remember taking the pregnancy test, had no reason to think I was pregnant other than a "feeling", and it came out +. My neighbor came over right as I had found out and I told her before I even told Jeremy! I was in shock.
4. HOW OLD WERE YOU?
I was 25 when I had Haiden, 28 when I had Hannah.
5. HOW DID YOU FIND OUT YOU WERE PREGNANT?
At-home pregnancy tests. Those suckers are expensive, as we found out when trying to get pregnant with Haiden!
6. WHO DID YOU TELL FIRST?
With Haiden, I told Jeremy first. With Hannah, I told my neighbor/friend, and then Haiden, and THEN Jeremy!
7. DID YOU WANT TO FIND OUT THE SEX?
Yes! I hate surprises and wanted to be able to get ready.
8. DUE DATE?
Haiden: August 21, 2003.
Hannah: April 9, 2006.
9. BIRTH DATE?
Haiden: July 28, 2003.
Hannah: April 5, 2006.
10. DID YOU HAVE MORNING SICKNESS?
Not with Haiden other than a huge, huge aversion to meat.
Hannah...sick the entire 9 months pretty much. Same aversion to meat. And pretty much everything else....
11. WHAT DID YOU CRAVE?
No cravings.
12. WHO/WHAT IRRITATED YOU THE MOST?
Nothing? At least no more than normal, I guess. I actually felt better mood-wise when pregnant. 13. DID YOU WISH YOU HAD THE OPPOSITE SEX OF WHAT YOU WERE GETTING?
No. Jeremy really, really, really wanted a girl the first time around. When we found out we were having a boy, it was fine though. He was very happy when we had Hannah; he really wanted a girl! I didn't really care.
14. HOW MANY POUNDS DID YOU GAIN THROUGHOUT THE PREGNANCY?
Haiden: 19 pounds.
Hannah: 18 pounds.
15. DID YOU HAVE A BABY SHOWER?
I had 2 when I had Haiden and work threw me one as well. My aunt had one for me when I was pregnant with Hannah too.
16. DID YOU HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS DURING YOUR PREGNANCY?
No complications with Haiden other than at the end, when I had pre-ecclampsia. When that hit, it was pretty bad. Had an emergency C-section; had complications; I won't go into it too much because the actual events are a little fuzzy even to me.
Hannah: I was just sick a lot, couldn't go to the grocery store, threw up all the time. C-section was planned with her, but still had some problems with the anesthesia during it. Otherwise, nothing traumatic this time around!
17. WHERE DID YOU GIVE BIRTH?
Holland Hospital, Holland, MI. GREAT place to have a baby, by the way!
18. HOW MANY HOURS WERE YOU IN LABOR?
Zero? I guess? Never in labor with Hannah. With Haiden, they tried to induce, but it wasn't working. I did have contractions for a few hours, about 30 seconds apart, but nothing happened. So I guess that doesn't constitute labor?
19. WHO DROVE YOU TO THE HOSPITAL?
Jeremy. With Haiden, I had to call him and tell him to get home from work immediately because the doctor wanted me in the hospital ASAP. Hannah was planned.
20. WHO WATCHED YOU GIVE BIRTH?
Jeremy...a team of doctors.
21. WAS IT NATURAL OR C-SECTION?
C-sections for both.
22. DID YOU TAKE MEDICINE TO EASE THE PAIN?
Epidural for Haiden before I went in for C-section. Still ended up having to be knocked out though.
Hannah: Spinal anesthesia.
23. HOW MUCH DID YOUR CHILD WEIGH?
Haiden: 5 pounds, 1 ounce. 18-1/2 inches.
Hannah: 6 pounds, 1 ounce. 19-1/2 inches.
Notice the two were exactly 1 pound and 1 inch different?
24. WHAT DID YOU NAME HIM/HER?
Well...it's pretty obvious from above, but Haiden Christopher Westfield and Hannah Elizabeth Westfield.
Haiden's name was going to be Hannah had he been a girl. When we found out Hannah was a girl, we said to Haiden, "what should we name your little sister?" and he said "Hannah." We thought it was so weird that 1) He came up with that name on his own, never hearing us talk about that before, and 2) The he even knew that name...it's not like we knew anyone with that name. So...Hannah it was. Elizabeth is Jeremy's grandma's middle name and we wanted to use that in her honor. Both of the kids have long names...good thing they don't have to write them out every day!

25 things you never wanted to know about me

I don't know what happened to some of my posts, but I noticed this one was missing from previous and thought I'd re-post it since I have nothing interesting to put up today.

1. I sleep less than 5 hours a night, sometimes not even 4.
2. I qualified for Mensa. Yeah, I can see jaws dropping to the floor on that one.
3. I am terrified of fish, even guppies.
4. I will not swim in lakes/rivers/oceans due to the above fish phobia unless I can see all around me and see the bottom.
5. I can't say no.
6. I can't sleep with closets open.
7. I hate my name and have always wanted to change it.
8. I want to live "off the grid" someday.
9. My favorite food is yogurt. How weird is that?
10. I held a snake for the first time that I can remember at age 30, and only because Hannah dropped it and I didn't want it getting to the other kids in the class and killing them. It was pretty huge, about 6 inches long, so it could have done some damage.
11. My favorite color is blue, all shades.
12. My favorite sports to play are raquetball and volleyball.
13. I read every day, and will read anything I can get my hands on.
14. I want 4 kids.
15. I turned down 2 full scholarship offers for pharmacy school and regret it to this day.
16. I want to get a tattoo, but am afraid of the pain factor.
17. I hate talking on the phone.
18. I get bored easily.
19. I have never been drunk.
20. I have never smoked cigarettes.
21. I don't believe in organized religion.
22. I love animals, minus the fish, of course, and snakes, and anything scaly, slimy, scary-looking, etc. Cute, fuzzy, cuddly...I love 'em.
23. I secretly want a Hummer, preferably a black one, even though I know they are a major waste of money and are gas guzzling and hugely environmentally un-friendly. No, I'll never get one, but it's my secret "want" that I will never have.
24. I hate wearing jewelry. It has been over 5 years since I put on my wedding ring.
25. I clean and organize things to calm down and destress.

And more I have thought of....

26. I hate cell phones, or rather, people who don't know how to use them appropriately.
27. I have a severe panic disorder and agoraphobia and most people don't know it because I can hide it really well.
28. I hate visiting people who have cats....Allergies and I hate the smell of cat boxes and can smell them from a mile away.
29. I have had anorexia and bulimia.
30. I worry about money constantly, even if it's not an issue at that point in time.
31. I don't trust anyone with my kids, or at least very few people.
32. I hate it when people use Febreeze or other kinds of air fresheners/sprays...especially when it's sprayed onto a floor or furniture where little kids or babies play...chemicals anyone?
33. I don't let my kids drink pop or colored drinks...except on very special occasions, and then I pay for it later on. I don't drink these either.
34. I am allergic to MSG, but that doesn't stop me from eating Chinese food...I do pay for it later on though!
